Borborema Pegmatite Province · Brazil

Critical and strategic minerals from rock to purified ion.

We mine, beneficiate and purify the minerals behind the energy transition, aerospace and advanced electronics — with traceable origin in the geological heart of northeastern Brazil.

ION-E × CMP — JSC Chemical Metallurgical Plant

ION-E × CMP Lithium

Borborema geology meets 70 years of alkali-metal chemistry.

CMP — JSC Chemical Metallurgical Plant, Krasnoyarsk — has been Russia's leading manufacturer of lithium products since 1956. It began by producing lithium hydroxide from spodumene concentrates and developed its own schemes to extract lithium, caesium and rubidium.

Together, ION-E and CMP are developing the hydrometallurgical purification pilot plant in the Seridó: ION-E brings the territory, the ore and the mining and beneficiation operation; CMP brings industrial know-how in extracting and purifying alkali metals and high-purity compounds.

The company

Mineral engineering with a chemist's mindset

ION-E Mining & Chemical Industry was founded in 2018 in Pedra Lavrada, Paraíba, on one of the richest pegmatite provinces on Earth. We operate across the whole chain: geological exploration, mining, physical beneficiation and — now — hydrometallurgical purification.

Our purpose is to turn ore into high-value feedstock: concentrates with controlled specifications, traceable origin and full technical documentation for domestic and international industry.

  • Traceable originEvery lot is linked to its mining face, process route and laboratory results.
  • Tailored specificationParticle size, purity and packaging defined with the customer.
  • Chemistry in our DNAInorganic chemical manufacturing is ION-E's core activity — not an add-on.

The territory

Borborema Pegmatite Province

In the Seridó region of Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte, zoned pegmatite bodies formed about 510 million years ago, at the end of the Brasiliano orogeny. Their cores host massive quartz, feldspars, beryl, columbite-tantalite, micas and gemstones.

The region supplied the world with tantalum and beryllium during World War II and has been mined for some 80 years. ION-E brings method, engineering and modern chemistry to this geological heritage.

Pilot plant

Hydrometallurgical purification of strategic minerals

We are building a hydrometallurgical purification and processing pilot plant in partnership with CMP Lithium — Chemical Metallurgical Plant, a reference in alkali-metal chemistry and high-purity lithium.

The goal is to move from selling concentrate to delivering purified tantalum, niobium and beryllium compounds, adding value within the territory itself.

Ta/Nb route

HF/H₂SO₄ digestion, MIBK solvent extraction and selective Nb/Ta stripping to Nb₂O₅ and Ta₂O₅.

Beryllium route

Beryl opening via sulfate or fluoride process, Al and Fe removal, and recovery of Be(OH)₂/BeO.

Process safety

Designed with containment, exhaust and occupational monitoring — the standard required by fluorinated reagents and beryllium compounds.
